「ペット・アーキテクチャー・プロジェクト」

密集する建物の１ｍの隙間、道路と線路に切り取られた細長い街区など、東京には都市の開発に伴い、副産物といえるような場所がたくさんつくられている。こんな常識外れの小さな敷地に建つ犬小屋以上建物以下の構築物を我々はペット・アーキテクチャーと呼んでいる。ペット・アーキテクチャーのヴァリエーションによって都市の隙間をリサイクルし、東京を再編しようとする試みがペット・アーキテクチャー・プロジェクトである。１／１つまり実物大のペット・アーキテクチャーの自主制作、現在の東京に散見されるペット・アーキテクチャーのリサーチが主な活動内容である。

Tokyo Night Walker

僕は東京で生まれた「パラパラ」というダンススタイルの核心を追って神楽坂の「ツインスター」というクラブを何度も通ってリサーチした。日本には千年も前から「盆踊り」という死者を慰霊するダンスがあるが主旨は異なるものの様式はこの「盆踊り」に酷似している。パラパラはダンスなのに足のステップを殆ど使わず上半身だけで踊るのが特徴。クラブには必ずパラパラマスターという人物がいて毎回新しい踊りを教えてくれる。意外なのはこのクラブは非常に健全でいわゆる乱交などといった行為は一切なく。客は真剣にステップを学習し、同一化することを最終目標とする。日本人特有の勤勉さと伝統的宗教様式をベースに最先端のテクノロジーから発するユーロビートが融合している点が巧妙で世界でここ、東京以外には全く類を見ないが最近は韓国など近隣アジア諸国に輸出されるようになり、カラオケブームの再来と言われている。

私がこの５０年代後半頃の東京の映像を紹介出来る事をとても嬉しく思います。当時、日本の一般家庭ではカラー写真でさえ珍しかったと聞いたので、８ミリフィルムは大変貴重な映像だと思います。この映像を始めて見た時はそのきれいな色と人々の表情がとても新鮮でショックを受けました。それは私の想像していた昔とは何か違うものでした。周りにいた大人が良く、”現在はとても便利な世の中になった、だから私達は幸せなんだ、戦後は物が無くて、国中貧乏で大変だったんだよ”と言っていたので、昔の人は不幸な生活をしたと、いつのまにか信じていたからでした。
